We had two big activities planned for today – Sunday Roast and Royal Albert Hall..but we snuck in a sirst a Christmas church service at Westminster Abbey this morning. The gang was moving a slow today so we were a smidge late for service and relegated to a side wing. The service was lovely (included communion). The ladies had a guided tour of the Abbey on Friday but this was my first time at the church in decades (if ever – I’ll have to dig through pictures). Following the service, we taxi’ed over to Hawksmoor for Sunday Roast – which is quite the feast. Ruth raved on the Caesar salad, so we ordered that for the tables as a starter. It was good (I actually enjoyed the anchovies!)… and made me feel almost healthy for a moment…until the slab of meat arrived along with delicious decidely not low cal sides. Somehow we managed to eat dessert and then it was time to walk off some calories by wandering the streets of London for some last minute shopping. Once again we found ourselves at Covent Garden and enjoyed the Christmas tree (this time, seeing the ‘snow’ fall).

Our final night in London was the Carol sing-a-long at Royal Albert Hall. Each year these concerts sell out early (they put tickets on sale the day after Christmas!). Ruth was able to find single seats but in the same section. Luckily for us, there were some no shows, so at interval, we grabbed four together and enjoyed the 2nd half singing and sitting together. The concert is a GREAT way to get in the Christmas spirit…and of course singing carols with singers in your midst is always a treat.

Dinner was scones, jam and clotted cream that Ruth had picked up at Fortnum. Then it was time to pack up.
