Are you grateful for all that you have? I have so many blessings in my life, but I do forget from time to time! The communication barrage from social media and marketing companies point out what you don’t have and what you ‘absolutely’ need. Envy blackens your heart. I find that the best way to avoid envy is to focus on what you do have.

When I worked at Origami, I started a slack channel during the pandemic called the Gratitude Challenge. Each week I posted an exercise for any/all to participate. I never could figure out what triggered the most responses. Many times a friend would direct message me saying that a challenge really spoke to them, even when they didn’t contribute. The long and short of it is that you never know what someone is going through and how your words may touch them.

Fast forward to Mary 2.0 – when I started this blog, I KNEW I had to have a post category for Gratitude. So here I am. If you participate add a comment or an emoji, if you want, but there is no obligation.

Today’s challenge comes from my Gratitude calendar. Your mission is to reflect on this quote:

This is a wonderful day. I've never seen it before. - Maya Angelou

For me, it’s a reminder that each day is a blessing from God. Each day is brand new. You don’t have to carry over the baggage, mistakes, history, heartaches, stress from yesterday. This is a WONDERFUL day. It’s brand new and ready for you to do with it what you want. It is my choice how I attack the day. I can approach it with a negative or positive perspective. I can honk my horn and flip someone off while driving or I can let it go and realize they may be dealing with some stuff that causes them to drive aggressively.

Here’s a similar quote a lovely hymn based on Psalm 118.

This is the day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.

So today – rejoice and be glad in the day.

Here are some pics I took of roses. I think most of these are from a trip I took to Butchart Gardens on Victoria Island in Canada. The first pic I thought was from a wedding, but it actually is from a stay with some friends in St. Emilion France.

Gratefully yours,

Mary

  1. Boy, did I need to read this today. I’ve been in a hormonal funk all week. While my body chemistry is not my friend right now I’ll need to work a little harder on being grateful. I’m so blessed! Looking forward to reading your new blog! I think it’s a brilliant idea.

  2. Beautiful roses.
You write very well, Mary. You seem to have gotten this “blogging” thing down already.
    Good luck with Mary 2.0!
