Tuesday is trash and recycling pick up in my neighborhood. I typically put my bins outside the night before so as not to risk missing them in the morning. I hear the big trucks lumbering up the hills in my neighborhood before I ever see them. Every week (with small deviations for holidays), these men and women drive through neighborhoods, picking up our bins in all sorts of weather. If you’ve ever driven behind a garbage truck, you know how stinky refuse can get.

I’ve never thought where the trash and recycling go after they leave here. I try to keep my environmental footprint small. With just me (and now Buddy) in the house, I’d like to think I don’t produce too much for the landfill.

Today I will be grateful for the convenience of this service. I don’t have to drive to the dump (first I’d have to find it…then I’d have to load my trash into the back of my fancy convertible – ew!). And I will be grateful for the folks who provide this service…Especially in the heat of summer or the bitter cold of winter.

Bonus challenge: maybe not today but how about sometime this week/month/year, meet the crew with a treat: cookies and ice cold Coke on a hot sunny day are a great way to show your appreciation.
