I’ve been off schedule from writing posts for over a year…which just goes to show you the importance of routine and discipline and forming habits….but that’s not what this post is about. I haven’t written a Gratitude challenge in awhile, so we are overdue. The challenge, Fulfilling Favors, is an unusual one, but I liked the alliteration (especially since it is Friday! FFFFFFF and not the usual 4 letter F that pops out of my mouth sometimes when I’m driving down 400 – another F! Perhaps I need a gratitude series on Favorite letters? But I digress).
I am geared toward saying yes, people pleaser that I am (Or as Ado Annie sang “I’m just a girl who can’t say no” which is about saying yes to…um…different types of favors). If I am not careful, I can say yes too many times and get overrun with requests. But, presuming boundaries are properly in place, can we all be grateful for being asked a favor AND fulfilling that request.
It’s fun to make someone else’s moment, day, week, year a smidge better by helping them out in their time of need. Recent favors: picking up my nephew from school; helping my niece style her hair for a party; taking care of my neighbor’s bird; bringing in an Amazon package for a neighbor who is out of town.
How about this one? I was in the grocery line and saw the person behind me was only buying one thing (a soda), so I let them go in front of me. They didn’t ask, but wouldn’t that count as a favor?
Let’s be grateful these opportunities to be kind to someone else. I consider favors small gestures of God’s love and presence.
Your challenge is to get out there and fulfill a favor (requested or not).
Here’s the bird who I am pretty sure doesn’t like me…but we seem to have reached a tense peace treaty for now.
