Well if you thought yesterday was rainy, hold my beer. We arrived in Ketchikan and brought the rain clouds with us. Several people canceled their excursions because of the weather. And several were canceled by the tour companies. I was not to be deterred. I carefully filled my water bottle and layered up …then promptly left my water in the room. oh well. Lucky for me the guide had water which was needed (weird that I was thirsty since we’re practically drowning in it).
Off to the Tongass again. This was considered a strenuous hike according to the guide, but it wasn’t that bad. really. The guide was from Iowa via Los Angeles…I’m sure there is a GREAT story there but it didn’t share all of it. He gave a lovely tour of the park. We were too early for salmon runs, but did see a slug or two, a black-tailed deer and an eagle. While we didn’t bump into any bears, we did see some bear scat and some claw marks on trees. That was close enough for me.
I was drenched at the end of the tour and had great plans to get cleaned up and go back out to see the town of Ketchikan. But Chartreuse, the French restaurant, was open and beckoning to me. So instead I enjoyed a croque monsieur and some white wine. And yes, nap time took over.
Another happy hour with the singles and then it was off to Compass Rose. Tonight the lecturer and his wife were our hosts. I enjoyed a lovely Arctic Char. I believe tonight was the ‘racy’ Paradis show. Not sure that it was all that racy. It was good, except one of the singers has clearly enjoyed cruise food too much and was pretty much busting out of her costume.
One more day at sea and then it’s disembarkment in Vancouver.
