For at least the past two years, the guys who service my HVAC system have told me my attic insulation needed to be replaced/upgraded. I procrastinated until this past week. While this could be a gratitude challenge for finally taking action, I have chosen to make it all about insulation.
Insulation is not super sexy. It doesn’t make your house ‘pop’ with color. It won’t increase the value of your home (I don’t think). It is an unsung hero. Kind of like your water heater. No one cares if it is working, but they sure know when it isn’t. Beefing up my insulation has made a world of difference. I’m grateful I finally made the phone call and had my insulation enhanced.
My state has a minimum requirement of 14 inches of insulation. Pre-install, my insulation was at a measly 8 inches. The picture below looks more like 4 inches – so it was not equally spread out anymore. Now I have 22 inches of R-60 fluff!
My HVAC already seems happier – it will be easier to cool and heat my house with this extra padding. Side benefit is it seems to be quieter in my house.
I’m grateful for the workers who were friendly and professional and explained what they were doing in terms that I could understand.
Here are the amazing before and after pictures.
