It’s Memorial Day weekend, which signifies for many the start of summer. Let us not forget that it is more than just a day off from work, it;s a holiday to recognize those in the US Military who died while serving. The holiday has been around since 1868. Up until 1970 it was celebrated on the 30th of May. Since 1970 it got locked in to the last Monday of May (which it then likely switched focus from honoring the dead to vacation getaways).
For today/this week, let’s make the gratitude challenge about being grateful for anyone who has served in the military.
Both my mother and father served in the Army (that’s how they met) as medical professionals at Fort McPherson. I’m grateful for all who serve and who are willing to sacrifice themselves for our freedom.
At our team meeting, we came up with favorite military movies…so you can add a bonus challenge to watch one or two:
- Saving Private Ryan
- top Gun
- Lone Survivor
- American Sniper
- Unbroken
- From Here to Eternity
- 1917
- All quiet on the western front
- Dunkirk
- Gone with the Wind
- 13 Hours
- The Covenant
- Band of Brothers
