It’s our last day in New York City. I spent the morning packing and stewing about my ‘new’ suitcase. It hasn’t moved from the New Jersey warehouse. I am committed to my damaged TravelPro unless by some miracle, there’s a delivery today. We check out from the hotel and leave our bags with the hotel. Our Uber driver dropped us off at the dog museum…but we didn’t see it and spent a good 15 minutes (but felt like an hour) circling the block looking for the darn thing. We did eventually find it and enjoyed the exhibits…it’s a cute but small museum, exceptionally close to Grand Central Station. They had a fun spot where they’d match your picture with the breed (I’ve posted the two matches). Since we were so close by, we walked over to Grand Central to enjoy its grandeur.
We have tickets to a matinee at 2pm, so grabbed a quick bite at Pret-a-Manger. Here’s where things went a little sideways. It’s about 1:20pm. The theater is a 20 minute walk from the restaurant, but apparently no one (but me) was in the mood for a walk, so we hailed a taxi. Unfortunately for us, traffic was atrocious due to the ice/snow issues. I watched the estimated arrival time slip closer and closer to, and then past, 2 pm. Even the cab driver gave up hope. He got us as close as he could to the street that the theater was on. I left the others to speed walk/run to the theater in the hopes that my being there with tickets on my phone would keep the show from starting until they arrived. Luckily the ushers could see how bad traffic was (or could see how few people were in their seats as the clock struck 2), so the show start was slightly delayed. We arrived to our seats (and weren’t even the last ones!). Shout out to the 1st balcony/Loge last row – GREAT SEATS.
Death Becomes Her is a very cute movie that has been turned into a more racy but equally funny musical. Props to the leading ladies and to Michelle Williams from Destiny’s Child. We left the theater in good spirits and headed back to the hotel to grab our bags and taxi to the airport. Still no ‘new’ luggage so that purchase was a total bust.
We were very slightly ahead of rush hour and made it to LGA with plenty of time (actually just missed the opportunity to try for the 6:30 flight). LGA has recently been renovated. Everything is clean and spruced up. We settled in to wait for our plane. The flight home was uneventful. My damaged luggage made it home without additional wear and tear. Ruth’s husband was waiting for us at baggage claim.
All in all another great but exhausting trip.
Final thoughts:
Kudos to my friend Ruth who is teaching me to relax/not get so worked up about punctuality…maybe.
I highly recommend you attend the Westminster dog show at least once in your life.
I believe my ‘new’ luggage is still sitting in the New Jersey warehouse. I’ll start the refund process in the morning.
