Happy New Year!
I managed to catch a virus of some sort, so I’ve started 2026 with a bit of a cold. Colds get no respect. I feel like I’ve got the plague, exhausted with an earache, cough and scratchy throat. Alas,I have no fever. I felt bad enough yesterday that I went to Urgent Care. In general I don’t like going to the doctor…which is weird coming from a doctor family. I get ‘white coat syndrome’, where my blood pressure shoots up just from walking in the waiting room. I ran through my symptoms with the nurse and the doc. I got all sorts of tests done (I had almost forgotten the joy of the Covid test stuck up your nose.). All of the tests were negative. I never know what my reaction should be. I’ll be honest, I was mildly disappointed that I didn’t have something, considering how I felt. I should be grateful that it was nothing serious. But I’m also cheap and am annoyed that I’ve shelled out some bucks to confirm there was nothing to do but wait out the ick. Never one to waste time, I’m writing up a bunch of posts to entertain you/me.
Today’s post is about my word of the year
I had sworn off social media, but somehow instagram snuck back in. I follow Merriam-Webster (highly recommend, along with Brittanica Encyclopedia). They had a post recently that ran through a plethora of words. My screen shot would land on whatever word would be my word for the year. It’s worth it to find the post and read the comments as there were some negative words as well as some absurd words (e.g., potato). Fortune shined upon me that day for my word is/was joyous.

I love that my word for 2026 is JOYOUS!
I thought I’d try one more time just to see if joyous is always the winner. I also passed to my sister for her to test.
My second word of the day: laughable

I’ll take laughable as my back up word.
My sister’s word choices were not as positive as mine, so I won’t post them here. Now to wait with expectations to see what joyously laughable things come my way in 2026.
