My sister gave me a copy of The Case for Easter by Lee Strobel to read this past Lenten season after patiently listening to my weak expressions of doubt in Christianity. Having recently seen the production of The Screwtape Letters (totally recommend if you get a chance), I am a 100% believer in spiritual warfare. I’ll save my thoughts on spiritual warfare for another day and focus on this book review. It is a small paperback – in size (easily fits into a purse at 4×6) and in volume (around 90 pages). It is an easy straightforward read that focuses on 3 elements to prove the Resurrection: evidence that Jesus died; evidence that Jesus’ body was not in the tomb; evidence of Jesus’ appearance following His death. Apparently most of the material comes from one of his other books, The Case for Christ.

Strobel, who used to be a skeptic himself, investigates the resurrection using the same approach he once used as a legal reporter—interviewing experts, digging into the evidence, and asking tough questions.

I enjoyed not only how easy it was to read but also the amount of research he did. Much of what he researched is what believers and non-believers often question. So thank you Mr. Strobel for being the CliffNotes for Christianity or Christianity for Dummies.

There are questions at the end of each chapter for discussion…which I breezed over because I wanted to finish the book. Now that I’m done, I think I’ll go back to the questions and tackle a few. Or perhaps I’ll read one of his many other books.

The conclusion (spoiler alert) is Strobel’s research proves the case for Easter. I don’t think a non-believer will pick up this book and <boom> become a Christian. It may nudge a non-believer in the direction of Christianity. It is hard to argue against what he has presented. I think believers will enjoy the re-affirmation or affirmation of their faith and will appreciate his investigation and writing style to convey the creed of Christianity.

I recommend you give it a read and noodle about your faith. Between this book, watching The Chosen (both the tv series and the ones shown at movie theaters) and The Screwtape Letters, it is clear God is nudging me hard to be stronger in my Faith. We will see what plans he has in store for me! Whatever they are, I’m sure they are exactly what I need!
