Many of you know I keep a gratitude journal via an app. From time to time, I review the entries to see if there’s a trend on who or what I’m thankful for. They should seriously invest in AI to do that for me. But I digress.
One of the weirder things that I’m consistently grateful for in my journal entries is my washer and dryer. They’re not anything special, and yet they are. I remember living in an apartment 12-plex where the coin-operated washer and dryers were in a separate building. I had to walk outside, down a flight of stairs and hope the machines weren’t being used. You can imagine how fun that was during a rainstorm. And when I lived in a dorm in Germany, there were these communal washer and dryers down the hall that required tokens. I didn’t do laundry for a while because I didn’t know the German word for token (or for washer or dryer for that matter – these words didn’t come up in German 101 or 201).
Today’s challenge is about being grateful for your washer and dryer if you have them in your residence or even if you just have access to them.
I adore washing clothes throughout the day as I work. And I’m tickled that I can be lazy and leave the clothes in the washer or dryer overnight without any fear of retribution (except for maybe damp clothes). For those of you without access to your own personal units, there is still much to be grateful for!
Can you imagine how difficult life was back in the day when every single item had to be hand-washed on a rock? No thank you.
See how happy she is?
