This was not the post I planned to write for today. Saturday morning I was listening to a radio program that talked about finding the humanity in each person – crossing political lines and opening up communication and understanding between conservatives and liberals, Republicans and Democrats (and all of us in between). I said to myself “Finally! Someone recognizes that we get more done united than divided. Everyone can take one step forward.”

And then Saturday night. Saturday’s assassination attempt on former President Trump was a shock to my senses. And some of the responses horrified me. Wishing harm or death on any person is not healthy. That is no way for our country to thrive. We have to find a way to see the humanity in each of us.

It’s okay to have different view points. I’ve lived with my twin our entire lives and we don’t always agree on every topic. And I shared a womb with her. We have to find a way to get beyond the differences so that we can live together in peace. It’s not okay to use violence.

…I just happened to read ahead in my daily devotional. Guess what?! It is a reference to Mathew 5:44! Wow. God is talking to us.

But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you

Matthew 5:44

My Prayer

Dear God

I don’t understand the hatred that exists in some people’s hearts.

Use me to reach those who are hurting and in the grips of the Devil. Help me to show them Your Love so that they can break free.

We need you now more than ever.

Thy will be done.

Amen.
