July 4th we celebrate our country’s independence from Britain. I am a rule follower, so I am pretty sure if I were alive back then, I would have been exceptionally reluctant to fight against the British. If you have forgotten all your US History (it has been a while since I was in a classroom), here’s an amazing timeline from 1585, when the first English settlers arrived, to 1763 – https://www.gilderlehrman.org/history-resources/online-exhibitions/timeline-colonization-and-settlement-1585-1763, as well as a timeline for the American Revolution – https://www.gilderlehrman.org/history-resources/online-exhibitions/timeline-american-revolution
It’s amazing what is available online…and yet the majority of people veg out to Instagram and TikTok. Oh how much we could learn, if we would just use our brains!
Thank goodness for our Founding Fathers and all the brave soldiers who stood up and fought back then!
And thank goodness for all our soldiers who fought for our country over the years.
We sang The Folded Flag during our Patriotic Concert last week. I’ve included the lyrics below because they touched my heart deeply.
Today’s gratitude challenge – say ‘thank you for your service’ to a veteran or an active military personnel.
A Folded Flag
A folded flag, a falling tear. A final sigh of memories dear. A wounded dream, abandoned plans. A folded flag in trembling hands.
God rest the warriors, the heroes of peace, servants of freedom, defenders of dreams, those who have offered all they could give, all who have died that others might live!
A call goes out into the night. The need is great, the cause is right! And heroes rise and sometimes fall. They give their hearts, their lives, their all.
God rest the warriors, the heroes of peace, servants of freedom, defenders of dreams, those who have offered all they could give, all who have died that others might live!
A flag unfurled and raised with pride, a symbol bold for those who died! Now we must strive to live as brave, and love the flag they fought to save!
God rest the warriors, the heroes of peace, servants of freedom, defenders of dreams, those who have offered all they could give, all who have died that others might live!
