This year I have the pleasure of serving on my choir’s officer nomination committee. We need to slate 6 positions for the upcoming (24-25) calendar year. It was surprisingly painless meeting (presuming they all say yes)…because we have really good singers and volunteers. All of which inspired me to create this week’s challenge – Let’s express gratitude for those who volunteer themselves and/or accept the request to serve as a volunteer.
Most non-profits could not survive without their volunteers – those who give their time freely (maybe begrudgingly) to provide organization, manpower, money, food, whatever it takes.
Next time you participate in a fun run or parade or festival or community theater, look around …and say thank you to the person signing you in, offering refreshments, pointing you in the right direction or cheering you on. They are most likely a volunteer who had to be at said event an hour before you to set up or may have to stay an hour after the event ended to clean up.
Here’s a pic of me and a bunch of ATL volunteers who helped out for the Superbowl when it was in Atlanta. I did the same thing in New Orleans. It was fun and a great way to be social and represent!
