Today is National Pet Day! How did I not know of this auspicious holiday? I have decided to make it an official work holiday so that I can hang out with Mavis (after a couple of client calls, of course). If you come work for me, you too will get National Pet Day off! Now that is a perk!
This challenge is ridiculously easy – be grateful for your pets – dog, cat, turtle, fish…even snakes (blech).
I’ll write another post about the dogs that I have loved and will focus my gratefulness today on the one and only Mavis.
I first saw her running around the streets in rural Louisiana one weekend. When I came home from a Monday rehearsal I looked out in the backyard and saw a little puppy staring back at me. The hypothesis is that she was a Christmas present gone bad. She was terribly afraid of white trucks and teenage boys which makes me think she might have been abused. That makes my heart break.
Mavis, my sweet Chiweenie, has gotten me through so many difficult times that I know she must have been sent by God. When I look into her soulful brown eyes I feel the love…even if she’s really saying “I’d LOVE for you to give me that cookie.”
I’m grateful every day for my furry friend. She is a great listener, snuggler and she makes sure I walk at least twice a day. She may snore a little, but I do too.
