I thought of this gratitude challenge over the weekend as my hair stood up straight in all different directions due to static electricity. I have NO idea how to be grateful for those zaps you get from static and the lovely hair styles it produces. Do you? Which is what makes it a wacky challenge to complete as we bundle up in sweaters, scarves and hats.
As I stall for time to figure out how to be grateful for it, I thought I’d supply a definition for you
Static electricity occurs when two or more bodies come into contact and separate again. This is a phenomenon between surfaces that results in the transfer of electrons from one atom to another.
And…after googling that, I found out some fun facts about static electric…so we can all be grateful for it.
- Photocopiers use electric attraction to “glue” charged tone particles onto paper.
- Air filters use static electricity to attract dust out of the air
- Spray painting (especially auto) uses static electricity with one polarity on the nozzle and the opposite on the car. Less paint is wasted and the paint is more evenly covered.
- It’s a painfully fun way to torment your friends with a balloon (that was not found on google but from personal experience)
