I was inspired by my gratitude calendar as well as a trending meme for today’s gratitude challenge.
First the quote from my calendar
Life is a gift. Everything is a surprise. The ordinary is extraordinary. Appreciation is generative. Love is transformative. These truths are seeking you in every moment. Take nothing for granted, Wake up grateful. It is never too late. It is never too early. Say yes to your life.
blah blah blah. That was a bit long. I focused on the first two sentences – Life is a gift. Everything is a surprise.
and now the video that is inspiring tik-tokers – surprise surprise! This is so 80’s and yet I love it. I find it funny that we are now 4+ decades later and it is still relevant…because we as humans can’t believe it when life surprises it. And we view disruptions to our routine as bad. What if we approached each surprise from the perspective of laughter and joy? A Christmas present that you unwrap and surprise! It’s tie dye finger socks. Perhaps not what you wanted…but maybe what you needed. Or maybe if it is neither, then maybe view that gift as the gift of love from the giver.
here’s my surprise from the holidays. I left Atlanta on the 26th for Macon. Normally a 1 1/2 hour drive at the maximum. But it was raining in Atlanta. And there was holiday traffic. And, surprise surprise, there was a car fire on 675 South that had all lanes blocked.
I’m grateful I had Waze on (and validated with Apple maps) that sent me on I20 and on a bunch of back roads so that I finally made it to Macon (I’m guessing it took 2 1/2 hours – maybe longer).
I could have turned around. I could have gotten mad. But I embraced this surprise and (after ensuring the gas tank was full) enjoyed the ride through all over Georgia.
Surprise! Surprise!
