Happy New Year! I hope your 2024 started off with fireworks.
I had the pleasure, since I am my own boss, of taking off the last two weeks of the year. I suspect many people did the same as me, just unofficially. I did check my email dutifully but mostly enjoyed (or tormented) family. Note to self, driving to Macon from Atlanta during a rainstorm on the day after Christmas is a very very very bad idea. As is driving to Charleston from Macon two days later. Everybody and their dog were on the highways and doing a poor job of staying on the road and not hitting each other. Lucky for me I made it back to Atlanta safe and sound (albeit a little strung out from trying to avoid these crazy drivers). I swear on I285 (the highway that encircles Atlanta), there are drivers who believe they are playing PS4 Gran Turismo – flying by cars that are already going over the speed limit (hello it is Atlanta. You’d be honked at unmercifully if you drove the speed limit) and cutting off cars right and left.
Here I am in the first week of 2024 and BOOM! My email inbox is ON FIRE! I am excited for what this first quarter holds for me. I have some really nifty work projects that are percolating. I have been noodling on a few ‘what if’s’ and have come up with some innovative ideas that I hope will come to fruition. So stay tuned.
What I am seeing (and am a little guilty of) is GOING without getting ready first (hence the title of the post). I am geared to take action. I can hear in my head, “DO SOMETHING!! ANYTHING!!” To be sure, inertia isn’t the answer. A balance has to be found. So I’m forcing myself to slow down and be a little more thoughtful in my approaches instead of running around every which way with my arms flailing.
And as meeting requests fly in, I’m mindful of the boundaries I need to hold on to so that I don’t become the workaholic that is in my DNA.
Even if I got out of order (On your mark, GO, get set), all signs point to me finishing this race.
