Welcome to a gratitude challenge series! I’m sure you remember from psychology 101 and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. The belief is that certain needs have to be met before you can proceed up the pyramid. I’m going to use this image/these needs for the next 5 gratitude challenges. Regardless of where you are on this pyramid, I hope you’ll participate!
Today’s challenge is to be grateful for our most basic needs – our physiological needs. Are you grateful for the food and water you consume? the air you breathe? your home? your clothes? the bed you sleep on? These needs are all very basic, so we often take them for granted.
So…
Take a breath and be grateful!
Be grateful that you can order lunch from GrubHub and aren’t foraging through the woods, looking for something edible.
I personally am exceptionally grateful for the bed I purchased from The Dump almost 10 years ago. I love my restonic bed. It’s comfy – not too firm, not too soft. It’s purchase came about during a very traumatic time in my life. In 2014, my mom passed away. This was followed by my husband deciding he didn’t want to be married to me anymore. I was starting over. I had stayed with my sister and now was preparing to move back into my townhouse that was empty (he had the furniture in the condo). Roxie, Mavis (my two dogs) and I were emotionally bruised and battered. Well, they were probably fine but they both knew I was falling apart.
Something as simple and basic as a bed to sleep in helped me to move forward. I’m grateful for that bed and everything it represents.
