Last summer I was in London for an extended period of time for work. Many weekends I simply wandered around the city with no destination in mind. One Saturday I happened to stumble into Southwark cathedral at the tail-end of a concert rehearsal. It is a beautiful church in a lovely area, in the midst of the market and hustle bustle of London. At one point in 2019 I had relocated to London in the Bermondsey area. This cathedral’s choir was one I was looking to join, had life turned out differently. Alas, the pandemic came in 2020 and my great plans were derailed.
At the back of the church were a number of pocket-sized cards with topics. Each card had a prayer and bible verse on the back of it. Two of the cards caught my eye, “Being Thankful” and”Wanting Guidance”.
The bible verse
“Thank GOD! And why? Because he’s good, because his love lasts.”
Psalm 106.1
The prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for all the good things in my life, big and small. Thank you for the people who care about me. Thank you for the beauty of the world – the birds, the trees, the sky. Thank you for everything that makes me who I am or helps me grow as a person.
Try for today to recognize and be thankful for the good things in your life!
Unfortunately I did not have a pic of Southwark cathedral. Instead you’ll find St. Paul’s and a handful of fun London photos from my time there.
